2022 - 2023 Annual Wage Increase

On Wednesday 15 June, the Fair Work Commission announced an increase of 5.2% ($40 per week) to the national minimum wage and an increase of 4.6% to minimum wages (or at least $40 per week) within modern awards.

The national minimum wage (which takes effect from the first full pay period starting on or after 1 July 2022) will increase the gross amount to $812.60 per week or $21.38 per hour. This increase is applicable to adult apprentices and any employee currently on an approved traineeship.

The increase to the modern award minimum wages of 4.6% (or a minimum of $40 per week), will take effect in the following ways to minimum wage rate:

  • If the current minimum wage rate is above $869.60 per week employees will receive a 4.6% increase
  • if the current minimum wage rate is below $869.60 per week employees will receive a $40 per week increase

The modern awards applicable to MPAQ members for the increase from 1 July include:

  • Plumbing and Fire Sprinklers Award 2020
  • Clerks (Private Sector) Award 2020
  • Building and Construction General Onsite Award 2020
  • General Retail Industry Award 2020

The MPAQ HR team will have the updated wage sheets available on the MPAQ website from 1 July 2022.
